World Class tourist destination

Egmont is located at the northeast end of the Sechelt Peninsula on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. Egmont Point defines where Jervis Inlet meets the Skookumchuck Narrows which leads to the mighty Skookumchuck Rapids at the head of Sechelt Inlet. Our village, the last stop on the way to Princess Louisa Inlet, is next to these rapids; the largest salt water rapids in North America.sechelt inlet - Egmont - map

Over 30,000 visitors from around the world come to our area annually. You can be certain they will remember "Courtnall's Legacy." From their vantage point at the rapids, they will see the clear cutting and the tangle of logging roads that mar the mountainsides across. However, the private guests of Mr. Courtnall, Mr. Reddam and Mr. Malloch will be more fortunate. The "million dollar" house that Malloch builds is nestled in a grove of trees spared by the loggers. Its view is directed towards the mighty Skookumchuck and to the thick forests beyond.

As Egmont becomes a favoured tourist destination, Local businesses are developing to meet the needs of the increasing number of visitors. As well, initiatives to further attract visitors to our area, such as a Heritage Museum, are under way. But, what will our visitors now think and say, when after walking through the rain forest on the way to the rapids, they emerge to view the ravaged mountainsides facing them.
